Although founder Farad Azima, an erstwhile UK pro-audio importer and distributor, has run the company since its inception and has a major influence on the sound of all Mission products, a substantive role in their design since 1979 has been taken by Farad's brother Henry ( interviewed elsewhere in this issue).įarad, however, was effectively the sole driving creative force eight or nine years ago, when I used to regularly visit him at his London apartment and witness stages in the design of a loudspeaker that, in retrospect, would put Mission Electronics on the high-end map. ![]() Although their product line originally consisted of three relatively conventional loudspeakers, it rapidly grew to encompass high-end pre- and power amplifiers, cartridges, tonearms, and turntables, and, in the mid 1980s, a system concept based on CD replay and relatively inexpensive electronics: the Cyrus amplifiers and tuner. Since its founding just over ten years ago, Mission Electronics has grown to become one of the largest "real" hi-fi companies in the UK. ![]()
